A Design Primer
“Beautiful design helps build trust in a brand or a product. It creates the perception of quality and care that builds a positive relationship with people. It also increases the likelihood that the brands will be recognized and ideas will be more easily shared and most importantly- it may be the determining factor that keep people coming back to buy or use your services again.”
Since 2018, I've been an active member of the NEPA Tech group, a collective of tech enthusiasts spanning various careers and interests. The purpose of these meetups is to foster a network of both technically skilled individuals and those with a casual interest in innovation and technology-related topics. Before the pandemic, the group regularly hosted monthly speakers, and after attending several sessions, I decided to challenge myself by becoming one of the presenters.
Bringing a designer’s perspective to a group that typically focuses on the “how things work” rather than “how things look” presented an intriguing challenge. Using the infamous phrase that every designer hears — “Make it pop” — I set the tone for a laid-back, humor-driven presentation. I employed fonts and visuals to highlight the contrast between effective design and less effective approaches, while incorporating visually engaging slides filled with animations, memes, diagrams, and a bit of "Mackem Sex"* humor to keep the audience entertained and attentive.
While scrolling through the presentation, it may make more sense to read my presenter’s notes as the bulk of the content was discussed verbally… also, Wallace is my pup- he’s well known in the NEPA Tech circle.
